Planning & Timing

When is the ideal time to take a birth class?
It’s never too early to start preparing. Pregnancy is full of mental, emotional, and physical changes, and early preparation can make a big difference. That said, the sweet spot for most families is around 20–25 weeks. At this stage, you’re far enough along to think seriously about your birth preferences, but still early enough to practice comfort measures and have important conversations with your provider. Even later in pregnancy, classes are still incredibly valuable—you’ll walk away with tools, confidence, and support.

Can I join if this isn’t my first baby?
Absolutely. Many families take the class as a refresher, especially if they want a different experience this time. Each birth is unique, and it’s always helpful to prepare with fresh tools, knowledge, and perspective.

The Birth Experience

What does a positive, empowering birth experience mean to you?
Birth is not about whether it’s vaginal or cesarean, medicated or unmedicated. A positive birth is one where you feel heard, respected, supported, and not traumatized. It’s about knowing your options and being empowered to make decisions that are best for you and your family. My goal is to help you feel informed and confident, no matter how your birth unfolds.

What if I’m planning a home birth or a cesarean?
I offer private classes that can be tailored to your specific birth plan. Whether you’re preparing for a home birth, cesarean, or anything in between, you’ll feel supported and confident in the options available to you.

How can I get my partner on board with a birth class?
Birth classes aren’t just for the mom, they’re truly for partners as well. Many partners leave saying the class was one of the most helpful things they did to prepare. You’ll learn together what’s happening during each stage of labor, practical comfort measures, and how your partner can be your steady support and advocate. Partners often walk away feeling more calm, capable, and confident, knowing exactly how to help when it matters most.

Community & Support

What sets your class apart from others?
Yes, you’ll learn the essentials about labor, comfort measures, and options—but my class goes beyond that. What makes it unique is the built-in community. From pregnancy through postpartum, you’ll have a group of people who get it, who share advice, and who cheer you on. That ongoing support and connection can make the transition into motherhood so much less isolating.

Logistics

Do you offer virtual classes?
Yes! You can schedule a private virtual class from the comfort of your home. There’s also a pre-recorded, podcast-style option available under Courses through Best Doula, perfect if you’d like to learn at your own pace.

Does insurance reimburse childbirth classes?
Sometimes, yes! Some insurance companies cover classes fully or partially, and some employers offer wellness or family benefits that include childbirth education. I recommend calling your insurance carrier to ask about coverage. I provide paid invoices with my tax ID on it to submit to your carrier as proof.

Do I need to bring anything to class?
Just yourself! A birth ball is optional, but I provide everything else you’ll need—paper, resources, pens, snacks, and drinks—so you can relax and focus on preparing for your birth.
